Chantal Comte La Tour de L'Or Rum - Marie Gallante Rhum agricole

This is the name of the latest reserve of rum that Chantal Comte has unearthed in Marie- Galante. This small collectors' reserve consists of 1400 bottles from the Biele distillery, the property of Dominique Thiery . This rum has been aged for 5 years in the cellars of the plantation.

Land of cyclones, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, the Caribbean is often the site of natural disasters which regularly destroy the distilleries and houses, which are then hastily rebuilt, giving them an appearance which is at the same time both temporary and conquering and which demands our admiration.

This is why Rum is infinitely respectable and heavy with the earthly force which has moulded the landscape of these islands. We are told that in order to describe the island of Martinique to the Queen of Spain, Christopher Columbus crumpled up a sheet of paper which he then threw on the table: " There, that is Martinique!"

But for Marie-Galante, more clement gods created a tropical paradise where the pink arrows of cane sugar are wafted by the Trade Winds at the edge of unimaginably beautiful beaches. The whole island is dedicated to Rum and in a scene from a long lost Eden, the sugar cane is still delivered to the distillery on large ex-drawn carts...
