1950’s style Ramon Allones Belicosos RE 2010

Some fantastic news from Havana. Our beloved Partagas Factory, well known for excellent craftsmenship since decades, is currently producing the upcoming German Regional Edion 2010 - Ramon Allones Belicosos.

The blend for these Campanas resembles the classic style of Havana cigars made in the 1950’s ! Tasting samples smoked at Partagas last week and countersamples smoked over here during the last days show a very strong and impressive blend, jam-packed with flavours of roasted coffee and rich, sweet caramel. While smoking these sledge hammer cigars the room fills up with heavy smoke - cigars for real men! Why on earth are cigars like that as rare as gold since the general change of blends in 1996 ?? Habanos is able to make cigars of that premier league taste and so they should do more.

I find it amazing that after a bunch of softcore smokes from the Island our German Distributor of Havana cigars, 5th Avenue Products Trading, once more took it a step further. As you recall in 2009 we launched the first, one and only SLIM Regional Edition (Bolivar Especiales No.2) and now we will have a real old style Cuban smoke coming. Something that stands against blends used for the i.e. Monte Open line ;-)

Ramon Allones Belicosos were on sale in the UK until some year ago. The blend of these was milder - so do not mix these two as they are as different as black and white. They are made for those able to enjoy the stronger end - but for those loving the mild, creamy cigars there are some very teasing smokes in the pipeline as well. So, stay tuned to more :-)

La Gloria Cubana Inmensos - some BIG Havanas coming soon

We could take a quick glance on these new La Gloria Cubana Inmensos. Following the ever growing demand on heavy ring gauge cigars these Sublimes sized Havanas measure 54 x 164mm. Like that they are of the same dimensions as the recently disappreaed Montecristo Sublimes.

The first batch of La Gloria Cubana Inmensos will be limited to 5000 lacquered/ varnished boxes of 10 cigars - to be on the offer at La Casa del Habano exclusively. At a later stage it is intended to have LCG Inmensos in regular and permanent production as another “LCDH ONLY” Havana cigar. Besides the San Cristóbal line, Partagas Salomones and Bolivar Gold Medal Inmensos it will be the first cigar of the LGC brand to be sold only in LCDH stores around the world.

As all Havana cigars from the LGC line also the big fat laddy comes from Partagas factory, the home of some of the finest cigars coming from the island. My tasting impressions I shall let you have soon. Official market release is scheduled for Spring 2010.

Cohiba Behike - a sneak preview into the new line

During this years Festival Habanos S.A. will release the new super premium cigars from a new Cohiba line called BEHIKE. Do not confuse these three new cigars with the Behike taht came out in a very elegant Humidor back in 2006.The new super premium line - sounds a bit weird to me - features three big ring gauge cigars called BHK 52 (52 by 119mm) BHK 54 (54 by 144mm) and BHK 56 (56 by 166mm). Super-premium means not only top notch quality but also prices ranges we have not seen on regular production Havana cigars. However, there is a market for the best of the best and there are moments in our life we deserve the best.

Presentation is in fantastic laquered boxes of 10 cigars and for good reason even the cigar bands will have holographic seals. Like that Habanos S.A. continues the ever lasting battle against counterfeits.

Happy smoking

Habanos launches new Havana cigars in 2010

Here is what’s in the pipeline for 2010  - but please do not ask me when we may start shipping as that is traditionally impossible to say – easier to predict my wife’s mood for tomorrow.

Within the normal ranges five new cigars will be added into two well known Habanos brands which are Cohiba and Romeo and Julieta. Cohiba will see three new sizes of full flavoured, heavy ring gauge cigars introduced under the line name of “Behike”, alongside its three existing lines. If the name “Behike” sounds familiar, you may recall that it was used for special cigars made in 2006 to celebrate Cohiba’s 40th Anniversary. The new Behikes are completely different in size and blend, and are differentiated further by the size names BHK 56, BHK 54 and BHK 52. The numbers refer to the ring gauge.

Presentation will be
Cohiba Behike - BHK 56  - 56 x 6 ½” (166mm) in boxes of 10
Cohiba Behike - BHK 54  - 54 x 5 5/8” (144mm) in boxes of 10
Cohiba Behike - BHK 52  - 52 x 4 ¾” (119mm) in boxes of 10

Two new Romeo y Julieta sizes are the Wide Churchill with its chunky 55 ring gauge follows on from the success of the classic Romeo Churchill and robusto-sized Short Churchill. The Julieta is a slender, elegant vitola created with lady cigar smokers in mind - as if they would like smaller sizes.

Presentation will be
Romeo y Julieta - Wide Churchill 55 x 5 ¼” (133mm) in boxes of 10 & 25.
Romeo y Julieta – Julieta 33 x 5 ¼” (120mm) in boxes of 25.

2010 LIMITED EDITIONS

Montecristo - Grand Edmundo 52 x 5 7/8” (150mm) in boxes of 10.
Vitola de galera: Cañonazo - as the Cohiba Siglo VI.

Partagas - Serie D Especial 50 x 5 ½“ (141mm) in boxes of 10.
Vitola de galera: Gordito - as Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial.

Trinidad - Short Robusto T 50 x 4” (102mm) in boxes of 12.
Vitola de galera: Short del Valle
Identical dimensions to the Short Robusto, but with Trinidad’s “pig tail”.

German Regional Editions 2010

Por Larranaga Robusto 2010 – 50 x 124mm in Cabinets of 25
Vitola de Galera: Robusto

Ramon Allones Belicosos 2010 – 52 x 140mm in boxes of 25
Vitola de Galera: Campana

Specialities for La Casa del Habano stores
These cigars will be available from LCDH Hamburg as they are specially made for the LCDH shops around the world

La Gloria Cubana Inmensos - 54 x 164mm in boxes of 10.
Vitola de galera - Sublimes

Ramon Allones Allones Superiores 46 x 5 5/8” (146mm) in boxes of 10.
Vitola de galera - Corona Gorda

Duty Free Shops
I am not really sure if in times of declining business travel the idea of “Duty Free-only” makes any sense – but anyhow this cigar is supposed to be sold in Duty Free stores around the world only:

Hoyo de Monterrey - Double Epicure 50 x 6 1/8” (155mm) in boxes of 15.
Vitola de galera - ‘Dobles’

Now then – this comprehensive list leaves us with some hope and makes us drool already.

Saronsberg Provenance Rooi 2007 - Bordeaux blend as company for your Havana cigar

Sometimes you see or taste things and you know they are a direct hit. Its a kind of love at first sight what I mean.

This South African wine from highly rated Saronsberg winery is one of these gemstones you come across every once in a while only. A yummy, juicy, packed and powerful Bordeaux blend with a good dash of Malbec. Its this Malbec that gives the wine the beautiful backbone it should have to accompany Havana cigars.

But beware, those seeking clumsy styled wines or such things as these jamy and overwooded ones that were common some years ago will be disappointed. Saronsberg Provenance shows class paired with elegance and thus it resembles todays Cape wine style at its best.

As referal let me say that this is the best selling wine in our store in Hamburg - and for good reason. Try a bottle and you will know what “Love at first sip” means….

Abmahn-Vereine erleiden Schlappe

Havana cigars and a twisted glass of wine

Yesterday my business partner Mitchell came over from the London office for our monthly marketing meeting. Certainly these meetings are surrounded by lots of good smoke as normally we keep sampling Havana cigars. Sounds like big fun but in fact it is hard work. Actually we ran into some boxes of lemons like we havent seen them since long. Paying respect to the industrie we decided not to publish the details on what we kept working through - for now !

Later the same day we decided to enjoy a pretty rare Diademas made by Partagas some 5 years ago. Outstanding smokes these have been as the blend was absolutetly perfect. The balance between fine tobacco paired with deep and rich sweetness is what I like the most in Havana cigars. As these Diademas are not available commercially it is pointless explaining more about these - yet it was interesting to see the enormous discrepancy between the rubbish cigars we sampled before and these devine smokes !

Part of this month marketing meeting was also a wine tasting of which I shall report shortly. But, when I showed Mitchell the new Riedel wine decanter called Eve he was baffled. It was my pleasure serving us some of the wines we sampled from this new and truely unique decanter - the only DOUBLE decanting one. Each time you actually twist a portion of wine into the decanters neck you may pour ONE glass out…..a lovely toy for boys and without doubt the talk of the dinner when you invite your friends.

Certainly I could not resist taking the decanter into our product range :-)

Riedel wine decanter Eve

So far I wish you happy smoking (and drinking) from deep frozen Hamburg
