Por Larranaga Robusto - Regional Edition Havanas for Germany

Just relaeased by the importer are these magnificent Por Larranaga Robusto - packed in unvarnished Cabinets of 25.

After the successful re-launch of Por Larranaga Lonsdales in Germany back in 2006 this is the second run on this famous brand. Personally, I must admit, this brand is my favorite. When I started smoking Havana cigars in the late 1980’s I came across these PL’s - and until today the sweetish taste of caramell and the medium body of these fine cigars are fascinating, to say the least. It goes without saying that this new Robusto follows its now so famous predecessors, the mentioned Lonsdales as well as the UK Regional Magnificos…

The Cabinet of 25 is available for 250.- Euro - shipped anywhere

LCDH Hamburg hosts Cuban Top-Torcedora Juana Ramos Guerra

Its always a great pleasure hosting friends from the Cuban cigar industrie. From September 28th until September 30th Juana Ramos Guerra will be rolling cigars in our store. Those who have travelled to Havana will certainly know Juana. After starting her professional career at the El Laguito (Cohiba) factory she is working at the Casa del Habano Hotel Melía Cohiba  since many years. I absolutely love the cigars she makes and thus LCDH Hotel Melia Cohiba in Hayana is always one of my first stops during my trips to Cuba.

Some cartons of first grade tobacco from Cubas Vuelta Abajo Region have arrived early this week – and so all is prepared for Juana. Feel free to come and see her any time….some complimentary coffee will be served along your personal Havana cigar.

Schweizer kaufen Havanas in Deutschland

Ramon Allones Spec.

Price increase on Cohiba Behike-Line

The Cuban export company for Havana cigars Habanos S.A. has announced a 10% price increase on the new Cohiba Behike line.

After the sucessfull launch of the new super-premium line during this years Habanos Festival expectations and demand skyrocket. Cigar merchants around the world have full order books for those cigars after many positive comments given by cigar experts and journalists who test smoked cigars of the Behike line in Feb.

In the last 18 years of trading Havana cigars I have not seen any such eagerly expected cigars as these. Also, as far as I recall, this is the first time a price has been increased by 10% prior to the worldwide sales release. Once more the Behike line sets new standards.

Winemakers night gone up in smoke

Just after this years wine trade show ProWein we hosted Dewaldt Heynes, winemaker at South Africas Saronsberg Winery/ Tulbagh. During the informal tasting of 6 Saronsberg wines Dewaldt guided the 40+ attending friends of LCDH Hamburg through the evening.

Certainly not an easy task to present wines in a room full of Habanos smokers - specially if you are not one of them. Thus I decided to carefully convince Dewaldt  he should enjoy the first cigar ever. Another shining star was born when he tasted what I selected for him - a San Cristóbal La Fuerza. The man stood the test, kept head upright, did not turn pale and he managed not to fade. First steps made - welcome to the LCDH Hamburg wine tasting.

Amazing was how the wines turned out to be in this special atmosphere. Top wines of the night were the Bordeaux Blend Provenance Rooi 2007 and the stunning long runner Full Circle 2006, a Shiraz, Viognier and Mourvedre blend.

Another night to remember.

Back on the shelves after 20 years - Upmann Noellas in Glass Jars

Havana cigars in Glass Jars were very common between the 1950’s until mid of the 1980’s - and soon after they totally disappeared. Highly sought after by cigar enthusiasts and collectors all around the world the few final Jars made 1986-1989 had price tags of up to 3000 USD per jar of 25 cigars. The unique flavor these Cosacos sized cigars developed in the air tight Jar made them so special. But, after the collapse of the former Soviet Union the Cuban government had to solve other problems than a continuous import of Glas Jars made in Europe. Like that Noellas, as all other Havana cigars presented in Glas Jars, disappeared from the market by during 1990.

Lately Habanos S.A. decided to re-start production of Noellas to be sold in the exclusive franchise stores La Casa del Habano. The re-launch was scheduled for Summer 2009 until some minor technial problems (with the Jar itself) led to a delay. According to latest information from Habanos S.A. the new Upmann Noellas will hit shelves this spring.

The picture shows a HISTORIC Upmann Noellas Jar in its 1960’s version. The new jars will be slightly different. La Casa del Habano Hamburg takes subscription orders now - once prices (tag shall be 285.- Euro per Jar of 25 cigars) are finally released and they are ready to be shipped you will be contacted for reconfirmation.

Cuban Vintage Rum from 1998

This morning we had to test drink some rare Cuban Rum. These tasting days are always hard work - but, what you do.

The 1998 Cuban Rum was distilled at the small Destileria Paraiso in Sancti Spiritus, right in the heart of Cuba. Matured in Bourbon- and finished on Italian Amarone casks. Bottled by Jim McEwan at Bruichladdich on the legendary Scottish Island of Islay. (As mentioned before Jim is not only hyper active when creating new Whisky at Bruichladdich but he also finds these extremly rare rums - and add’s his personal note to them). A total of 1800 have been filled.

We sampled our drams even before we had the first Havana cigar this morning. The color (of the Rum, not ours) is shining, light amber and its nose shows and a very flowery, expressive character. Some nicely blended Vanilla and spicy flavours. Long, sweet aftertaste, a result of the enhancement in Amarone casks. Most certainly Jim McEwan once more selected a stunning rum - and with 46% Alcohol it has a back bone to accompany a great Havana cigar.
