Octopus Paul, his prediction and the consequences

The world of cigar lovers has lost a shining star and a friend. Alejandro Robaina passed away April 17th in his house in San Luis/ Pinar del Rio at the age of 91 years.
I have lost a friend - and so have many of us who had the pleasure of meeting him. His heart warming smile will never be forgotten. Remembering him in silence
The Cuban export company for Havana cigars Habanos S.A. has announced a 10% price increase on the new Cohiba Behike line.
After the sucessfull launch of the new super-premium line during this years Habanos Festival expectations and demand skyrocket. Cigar merchants around the world have full order books for those cigars after many positive comments given by cigar experts and journalists who test smoked cigars of the Behike line in Feb. In the last 18 years of trading Havana cigars I have not seen any such eagerly expected cigars as these. Also, as far as I recall, this is the first time a price has been increased by 10% prior to the worldwide sales release. Once more the Behike line sets new standards. Happy smoking from Hamburg

Lately Habanos S.A. decided to re-start production of Noellas to be sold in the exclusive franchise stores La Casa del Habano. The re-launch was scheduled for Summer 2009 until some minor technial problems (with the Jar itself) led to a delay. According to latest information from Habanos S.A. the new Upmann Noellas will hit shelves this spring.
The picture shows a HISTORIC Upmann Noellas Jar in its 1960’s version. The new jars will be slightly different. La Casa del Habano Hamburg takes subscription orders now - once prices (tag shall be 285.- Euro per Jar of 25 cigars) are finally released and they are ready to be shipped you will be contacted for reconfirmation.
Happy smoking from sunny Hamburg

This morning we had to test drink some rare Cuban Rum. These tasting days are always hard work - but, what you do.
The 1998 Cuban Rum was distilled at the small Destileria Paraiso in Sancti Spiritus, right in the heart of Cuba. Matured in Bourbon- and finished on Italian Amarone casks. Bottled by Jim McEwan at Bruichladdich on the legendary Scottish Island of Islay. (As mentioned before Jim is not only hyper active when creating new Whisky at Bruichladdich but he also finds these extremly rare rums - and add’s his personal note to them). A total of 1800 have been filled. We sampled our drams even before we had the first Havana cigar this morning. The color (of the Rum, not ours) is shining, light amber and its nose shows and a very flowery, expressive character. Some nicely blended Vanilla and spicy flavours. Long, sweet aftertaste, a result of the enhancement in Amarone casks. Most certainly Jim McEwan once more selected a stunning rum - and with 46% Alcohol it has a back bone to accompany a great Havana cigar.

The blend for these Campanas resembles the classic style of Havana cigars made in the 1950’s ! Tasting samples smoked at Partagas last week and countersamples smoked over here during the last days show a very strong and impressive blend, jam-packed with flavours of roasted coffee and rich, sweet caramel. While smoking these sledge hammer cigars the room fills up with heavy smoke - cigars for real men! Why on earth are cigars like that as rare as gold since the general change of blends in 1996 ?? Habanos is able to make cigars of that premier league taste and so they should do more.
I find it amazing that after a bunch of softcore smokes from the Island our German Distributor of Havana cigars, 5th Avenue Products Trading, once more took it a step further. As you recall in 2009 we launched the first, one and only SLIM Regional Edition (Bolivar Especiales No.2) and now we will have a real old style Cuban smoke coming. Something that stands against blends used for the i.e. Monte Open line
Ramon Allones Belicosos were on sale in the UK until some year ago. The blend of these was milder - so do not mix these two as they are as different as black and white. They are made for those able to enjoy the stronger end - but for those loving the mild, creamy cigars there are some very teasing smokes in the pipeline as well. So, stay tuned to more
