The Daiquiri tasting showed clearly what todays situation on the Cuban Daiquiri market is like. The tasting panel decided to slowly work through the first flight of set of 6 different Daiquiris. Followed by the second set of masterly sharked drinks we fall into long lasting discussions about where this drink comes from, who created it, why it so bloody nice and why we should work through a third flight. The best one was, of course, the Dairquiri Mulata of lately released new blend (fresh lemon juice, some sugar, Kalua Coffee Liquor and a little bit of ground coffee on top. Man, that was a hard morning. Luckly we were able to quickly recover by smoking some great cigars after that exhausting morning.
Some friends from the Cuban cigar industrie provided the new Partagas Series D No.5 for our afternoon tasting. This upcoming Limited Edition cigar will be out to the markets soon. Tasting notes will be given after finally testing some more. The Petit Robusto is packed, dense and of course a bit tannic as the samples came straight from the rollers. We hang in that.
Later the day we have taken a glimps into the exclusive dinner of what is considered as being the world most exclusive cigar club, the Havana Cigar Club. The cigars I have seen on there tabel were just out of this world. At hand were Davidoff Chateau Haut Brion, Dunhill Estupendos and Cabinettas, some Bolivar from the mid 1970's, Partagas Especialidid 1996 and Cohiba Robusto Extra from the 35th Anniversario - just to name a few.
Sorry - now running to Havanas elegant Marina Hemingway. The Captain is waiting to take us out to a fishing trip. LCDH Hamburg sponsors the cigars and my old friend Toby Brocklehurst will provide some cases of Havana Club 7 Aņos rum just in case we get sea sick. More later.....
